DAISY

The first time I met Daisy at Woods Humane Society, she didn’t exactly make a great first impression. In fact, she hid from us. We walked into her room hoping to meet the cat who might someday become part of our family, and Daisy’s response was essentially, “Absolutely not. I’ll be over here where you can’t see me.” She was cautious, quiet, and tucked away from the strangers standing in her room. But somehow, we just knew...That’s our cat.

We didn’t need her to come running into my arms. We didn’t need her to immediately show us her personality. We just knew there was something special about that little girl hiding in the corner.

So, we brought Daisy home. And slowly, wonderfully, the real Daisy began to emerge.

Her curiosity won over her caution, her personality began to shine, and before long, we discovered that this sweet little cat had a LOT to say!

Of course, there was one very important family member she had to meet: her 70-pound “brother,” Bo, our Australian Shepherd. At first, Daisy was understandably suspicious of this enormous, fluffy creature who suddenly occupied her house. Bo, meanwhile, seemed very interested in his tiny new sister. Today? You can hear them racing up and down the hallway like two kids who have discovered they’re not supposed to be running in the house.

And sometimes, somehow, this tiny cat and her 70-pound Australian Shepherd brother are curled up together, with Daisy happily grooming Bo’s luxurious fur like she’s his personal stylist.

One of my favorite things is watching Daisy perched on top of her kitty tree, chattering away at the birds who stop by the window-mounted feeder. She watches them with complete fascination, making those adorable little sounds that only Daisy can make.

And then there’s Daisy’s internal clock.

It is VERY accurate.

Every morning at approximately 4:00 a.m., Daisy begins licking my face. Not because she wants affection. Not because she wants to snuggle. Because apparently…BREAKFAST IS LATE. 😂 Once she gets her little breakfast, she is perfectly content to curl back up, hunker down, and go right back to sleep. She has trained us well.

Today, Daisy is officially part of the Fearless Foursome, and honestly, we can’t imagine our family without her. We can’t imagine our mornings without her 4:00 a.m. breakfast reminders, our home without her silly little conversations, or our days without watching her and Bo become the most unlikely—and sweetest—pair of siblings.

Daisy may have hidden from us the day we met. But I think she was simply taking her time deciding whether we were worthy of her. Thankfully, she decided we were.

And every day since, she has given us another reason to be grateful that we found her.

Thank you, Woods Humane Society, for bringing the sweetest girl into our family. Daisy didn’t just find a home with us. She found her family—and we found a little piece of our hearts we didn’t even know was missing. ❤️🐾
