Rosa was born in 2008, Joey in 2009.
Both were unwanted. Rosa was wild – too much for the elderly cowboy who needed a herding dog. Joey was born in a tuff-shed in a junk yard and was swooped up in a Trap, Neuter, Return event.
Rosa had no idea how to behave, she didn’t know she had a name. She was a bundle of herding instinct and incredible energy. Joey was calm, and protective of other cats.
Time passes. Trust builds. Rosa learns her name, goes hiking and camping, herds cows calmly. Joey learns that humans are friends, idolizes the barn cat, wants an adventure, climbs that tree, gets stuck. Joey and Rosa help comfort young, frightened foster kittens.
Time passes. A big move, the ranch is left behind, a new world without winter. Still hiking for Rosa, and kitties to comfort.
Time passes. Rosa has aches and pains; Joey is old and skinny. They are often together, just hanging out, reminiscing, comforting, being.
Time passes, Rosa is gone, Joey naps on Rosa’s bed and dreams.
Time passes. They will be together.
