Vista's Page

Vista, our Border Collie, was rescued from a yard in the Apple Valley area after being neglected by her owner. She was fostered by a couple in Apple Valley until our family picked her up on a Pilots N Paws flight and brought her home. After spending a night with us, she was transferred to a rescue organization in San Luis Obispo County. We loved her from the start and immediately submitted an application to adopt her.

Unfortunately, while being transported by the rescue organization, Vista escaped in the eastern Paso Robles area near Highway 46. Despite the efforts of experienced dog trackers and many volunteers, she proved incredibly elusive and did not want to be caught.

In what can only be described as a real-life Homeward Bound moment, Vista somehow traveled from Paso Robles to my jobsite in the Avila Beach area. Many people, including my coworkers, spotted her and tried to catch her, but she always managed to stay just out of reach. After nearly a month on the run, she was finally captured in a field near the Target in San Luis Obispo.

When Vista returned to our home, she showed none of the behaviors typically associated with a dog that had spent so long on the run. She never tried to escape again. Instead, her only goal was to be as close to us as possible at all times. Since she had seen so much of San Luis Obispo County during her travels, including many scenic vistas along the coast, we decided her shelter name was especially fitting and chose to keep it.
