So, there we were! Our doggie (Yodi) had passed away from spinal cancer in August of 2024! Coincidentally, I had been the primary caregiver for my dad for 7 years and then he passed away in September 2024 just one month after! We found ourselves heartbroken and with an empty nest! I started scrolling through pics of doggies at 'Woods Humane Society' around Christmastime! When visiting there, we recognized all of the dogs on the revolving video reel. We could name them all! We had found "the dog" (we were certain we wanted) which we'd scheduled our meet and greet for! Although we liked her very much, it wasn't a good fit. Persistently, we revisited a couple of weeks later. We were there to see two candidates: One, a very rambunctious Aussie mix pup and then, a Basenji (with a little chihuahua mixed in)! The Aussie was a bit too young for us (although, a love bug)! Then, here comes this shy & scared Basenji! She was brought to Woods after having had a litter of puppies! She was very young (about a year old). We barely noticed her when we passed by the kennel, as she was pancaked up against the back wall! They brought her into our visiting room! I didn't make eye contact at first (just waiting on her)! I sat cross legged on the floor and she came over to my lap, climbed up and stared at me, then started giving me kisses! I said "you're gonna break my heart aren't ya"? We didn't take her home that day but could not stop talking about her! Come that day(2 days later) in February, on a Monday morning, we were there bright and early ready for Bella (now Cinder) to ADOPT US!! We now, take her everywhere with us! We cannot go to a store or venue without someone wanting to love and snuggle her! Everyone loves her Tiger Brindle Coat (which does not shed BTW)! She's the best dog ever. Wish I could add a video of her antics (she's hilarious)! She's asked to potty outside day one! She's taken over our couch, our trucks, our bed and our hearts! I thank her for CHOOSING US every single day! She is ever so loving, but on the flip side of that coin, fiercely independent! Her nose in the air, hanging out of the car window and those ears, always at alert and attention! Bella may have had an unfortunate beginning but, here's to Cinder having a wonderful second chance! We're hoping that her story touches your hearts, and you can vote for her for the calendar or any of the other candidates that have beautiful stories! We absolutely are in love with our little 17 lb. bundle of Basenji! Please adopt a pet, it's worth it I promise! Thank you, Woods Humane Society for you and your family (furry) ideals!!
